A Season of Hellos!

What a joy to get to introduce her as “my sister”!

My last post, A Season of Goodbyes, told of the bittersweet happenings in the Fitz household. Today’s post brings exciting tidings of new beginnings!

Let me introduce you to my long lost sister! We found each other courtesy of Ancestory.com this past fall. Though I’ve known about her my entire life (she had only learned of me when she found our father’s obituary a few years back), I could not find her, although I had searched.

After many emails and regular texting, she bravely flew from the east coast to stay with me a couple weeks ago! Neither of us have had the pleasure of having a sister so it was exciting, new territory for both of us 😀 What a joy to get to introduce her to my friends as “my sister”!

Better yet, she knows Jesus <3 That is something I have prayed for over the years, hoping to at least meet her in heaven if I couldn’t locate her here. What a joy to share both an earthly father and the heavenly Father too. We had fun bonding over coffee, seeing the sights of Fort Worth, and fangirling over Outlander.

City Slickers!

Before I sign off and continue getting caught up on life (thank you weddings, company, funerals, cross-country moves, long lost relatives), I want to give you a heads up that I have a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT in the near future! I’ll be having a giveaway to celebrate via Instagram so make sure you are following me to participate!

Have you had your DNA tested? Did that yield any interesting results? I actually haven’t sent in my kit yet, but my oldest daughter was the one who originally was alerted to the close connection between herself and my sister!

  1. Not yet, that I know of. He recently found some good matches on a couple of our dead-ends but I don’t know if he’s reached out to anyone to narrow it down further. I do know he met up with some distant cousins from one of his parent’s side – they have a huge estate in South Carolina that looks straight out of Ireland and they’re all lawyers and doctors. They shared pictures, the family Bible with all the names/dates, and all the stories they knew about one of my great-grandfathers. Apparently he was the blacksheep and squandered his share of the fortune. We could have been upper-crust society! 😉 lol

  2. That’s very cool about finding your sister. The world of DNA testing and genealogy research is getting so interesting recently! For years my father has hit dead end after dead end trying to research our family tree. But he cast his net wide, did tons of DNA testing, and recently results are trickling in. It’s so exciting!

And a big announcement?! *squeals* I might have to figure out my instagram notification settings. I only remember to check it once a week or so.
