And Then This Happened…

“My fingers and imagination were galloping across the keyboard, off to a consistent start, when life decided to take me on a detour.”

I’ve had many of you cyber-squeal with me about the next round of Tethered World Chronicles, which I announced in my last blog post and in other social media platforms. It’s exciting to know I’m writing to an expectant audience this time around, rather than hoping to find an audience at all!

My fingers and imagination were galloping across the keyboard, off to a consistent start, when life decided to take me on a detour. This new year, my mum has had some serious health issues, surgery, and then a small stroke after surgery, which has left her temporarily in need of long term rehab. As her only family member, I’m trying to spend a portion of every day with her so she’s not alone, but that also means other priorities have shifted.

Me and Mum on a little excursion.

I’m continuing to work on my new book (titles to be shared in a future post!), getting up quite early to write as my schedule allows (a challenge for this non-morning person!). I won’t lie, there’s a part of me that questions the timing…am I supposed to be doing this right now?

And yet, God seems to be making it quite obvious that he wants me to write. I shared about a supernatural encounter that happened this fall, a moment that I often return to when I have doubts about what I’m doing. He has further blessed me with two more opportunities that I have not, whatsoever, gone looking for.

The first was to be a contributing writer for a blog dedicated to clean fantasy called Lands Uncharted. Click this link, check it out, and follow so you won’t miss the fun features they regularly post from over a half-dozen seasoned writers. You can also read my first two posts with them on Weekend Reads and Writer’s Life. God knew I needed some consistent, structured deadlines. This is a miraculous fit because a fellowship of many writers means less-frequent postings per individual–something important with my mother’s situation and my other writing commitments.

The second was an invitation from a small group of speculative fiction authors who encourage each other online and pray for needs both personal and professional. I am in great need of prayers for both and believe this to be a divine appointment as well!

It’s made me laugh out loud (weird, when you’re all alone) at God’s overt persistence with me. It’s definitely boosted my faith in regards to the new TW story I’m embarking on. I won’t lie, I’ve been wracked with doubts and wrestling with angst about which story needs to be told in these next two books. But these not-so-subtle nudges from the Lord help to settle my anxiety and remind me that He who began a good work in me (and the Tethered World) will be faithful to complete it!

In the meantime, I would appreciate your prayers for my mother’s healing, as well as continued guidance with this new series. PLEASE, please let me know how I can be praying for you!

  1. I love that CS Lewis quote at the top of this post! It reminds me of a line from the movie Letters to Juliet, “life is the messy bits.” ^_^

I haven’t heard of Lands Uncharted – I’ll have to check it out!
And I’m glad your mother is doing better. I’ll continue to pray for you both!

    1. Yes, it’s so profound and a great reminder. It’s a rock on my sofa table! That quote you shared is a perfect summation!

Thanks for your prayers! I truly appreciate your friendship, Kat. How can I pray for you?
