I've Been Awarded the Liebster Award…and I Have no Idea What it is!

I’m a Liebster, you’re a Liebster, she’s a Liebster, he’s a Liebster, wouldn’t you like to be a Liebster too?

Ok, it might help to know what such name calling is all about, right? What I read on the internet implies that a Liebster is a “pay it forward” sort of blogging chain mail. Liebster is German for some lovely traits liebstersuch as endearing, welcoming, and valued. Those are kind compliments to pay via this nomination! It is also to encourage readers to discover new blogs.

So . . . now that the mysterious word has been defined, we can move ahead. First of all, thank you to Hanna over at Book Geeks Anonymous for the nomination! Hanna and I are new-ish blogging friends and I’ve enjoyed getting to know her, reading her book reviews, and exchanging pleasantries through the blogosphere. She is quite the bibliophile!

Here are the rules which I was asked to display:

– Answer the 11 interview questions
– In that post, link back to the person who awarded you.
– Choose 11 other bloggers to award, focusing on those with 200 followers or below.
– Link to those bloggers in your post, then go and leave them comments to share the good news!
– Be sure to ask them 11 original questions.

To begin, here’s the Q & A.

Which decade of the twentieth century would you most like to live in?

Hmmm. Probably the forties or fifties. Things were still wholesome and family oriented. Of course,  I wouldn’t have been a writer because I cannot hand write more than a page without my hand nearly popping off (due to a death grip on my writing instrument, that I can’t seem to correct). I probably would have stuck to dancing, my other love!

What’s your favorite movie?

Life is Beautiful. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (it thrills me to tears, still). Sorry, that was two!

What book do you most regret reading?

Not sure I have any regrets. There are a few that were just plain boring or poorly written but nothing that had a lasting, ill effect on my psyche or anything 🙂

What book are you most glad you read?

The Bible.

If you could meet one living author and one dead one, who would they be?

Living: Andrew Peterson. I love his music and his writing.

Dead: Easy… Clive Staples Lewis! I’m planning on hanging out with him for awhile when I get to heaven.lewis

Do you research a book before reading it or just jump right in without knowing a thing about it?

Jump in with both feet.

Do you play any musical instruments? If so, which ones? If not, what do you wish you could play?

I don’t think a tambourine really qualifies but I do have decent rhythm with one. I wish I could play the cello. It’s my favorite! My ultimate wishful talent is composing music, I cannot fathom thinking on so many levels like that!

Name something (a device, a concept, a TV show, etc.) that you wish had never been invented.

Pornography in all its forms, but particularly the easy access on the internet. It destroys lives and victimizes so many.

Assuming you’re a writer, do you prefer to write with pen and paper or on a computer?

COMPUTER. See question #1.

What is a quality in classic authors that you wish more modern authors would carry over into their works?

I wish authors (and publishers) wouldn’t expect writers to dumb down their vocab because words are unfamiliar. I think so much is learned in context. I do believe we must write in a consistent way to our topic and our characters, however.

Why is a raven like a writing desk?

I confess I have no idea and so I cheated and looked it up. But I won’t tell.

Finally, here are my eleven questions for other bloggers to answer (tagged below).

Why did you begin blogging?

What is your favorite blog topic?

Do you think life imitates art or is it the other way around?

Coke or Pepsi?

What’s your favorite background music while writing?

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve been given?

If you could travel anywhere to get inspired for your next novel (or writing project) where would you go and why?

Do you read outside of the genre you write in? Why or why not.

What’s your favorite dessert? Feel free to post the recipe!

If someone made a movie about your life, who would you choose to play you?

What would be the theme song to your movie?
