New Release and Two Giveaways!

Today is the day!

After a year of writing, editing, entering my story into the Rooglewood Fairytale contest (my story was a finalist), and then editing, editing, and more editing…my novella is finally available!

The best news is: you can get yours for the amazing low price of FREE!

Yep, as long as you are signed up to receive my newsletter, you will get this fun fairytale retelling as my gift to you (I’ll be sending out a code soon)! What’s extra special about this book? It’s dedicated to YOU the reader! So, you might as well grab a copy one way or another 🙂

If you don’t wish to subscribe, you can also buy the eBook on Amazon for just 99 cents! The paperback is also available if you prefer a good old fashioned book to have and to hold.

Better yet, why not try to win all seven of the the Snow White retellings that are launching this week? Each author is giving away a copy of their story in this Rafflecoptor giveaway 😀

For now, I’ll leave you with a taste for what the story is about. It was a fun challenge: taking two well known stories–Snow White and Esther–and mashing them together. You can also read the first chapter, here!

Queen Vashti the Fair is not only the wife of King Xerxes, she is also—secretly—an enchantress. But thanks to Haman’s flirting she now has a new distinction: deposed. While Vashti loses perks like her holographic trousseau, Haman continues to enjoy his position as second in command, much to Vashti’s vexation.

Mordecai was once a soldier in the king’s private guard, but has since carved out a self-sufficient life for himself and niece Esther. Although citizens are required to have an identity chip for governmental transactions, he and Esther live off the grid and out of big-government’s greedy reach.

Or so he thought.

When Mordecai’s old nemesis, Haman, turns up demanding Esther’s participation in the king’s upcoming beauty pageant, Mordecai arranges to have her transported to the Vale of Seven Dragons for protection. But not before Esther’s charm makes her a target on Vashti’s radar, as Vashti seeks to undermine the outcome of Xerxes’ hunt for a new queen.

Esther is caught between loyalty to her uncle and fear for her future—whether in the care of dragons or in the palace of the king. Will she be brave enough to embrace her destiny, wherever that may be?

Last but not least, I’d like to give away this yummy Poison Apple perfume from BookPourri! Yes, yummy and poisonous…why not? I’ll draw a winner from among the comments on this post. And if you’re a bookish nerd like so many of us are, you really should check out the scrumptious scents in perfumes and lotions made with essential oils from my friends at BookPourri!

Do you have a favorite fairytale? Have you every written a retelling? (You have??? Which one???) Any suggestions for my future retellings?

  1. Happy release!
I’m planning to do a The Nutcracker and the Mouse King urban fantasy retelling someday. And a Beauty and the Beast one that’s slightly blended with East of the Sun, West of the Moon where she knows him in both forms but doesn’t know he’s one and the same.

    1. Oh & ooooh! Both sound fantastic! Are you as excited as I am about the Nutcracker movie that’s coming out soon?! Wish we could go together.

I’m not familiar with East of the Sun, West of the Moon. Is it a lesser known fairytale?

      1. I hope it’s good. I heard something about the film flopping previews and they had to go back a change a bunch of things so hopefully that means they fixed whatever the problems were!

East of the Sun, West of the Moon is kind of the Norwegian version of Beauty & the Beast. It’s one I never cared for, involving trolls. The “beast” (a white bear) returns to being a man at night but she never sees him because he always turns up after the lights are out (it’s part of the curse). I’ve always thought one of the things Beauty & the Beast tends to lack is knowing the human behind the beast. And due to the cartoon Miraculous Ladybug and movies like You’ve Got Mail, I discovered I like stories where one character falls in love with another without realizing they know them (if it’s done well). So I’d like to blend the two.
I may even blend my Beauty & the Beast idea with the original Nutcracker story and do both at once as a mashup. We’ll see!

        1. Oh, I hope the movie isn’t a disappointment! Trailer sure looks good.

That story (East/West) sounds like the story of Psyche. I like your ambitious mash up! I want to read it already!!!

  2. Happy release day Heather! What a nice surprise to see you giving away one of my perfumes! Looking forward to reading your story.

  3. Happy release!! So exciting!!
I have written a fairy tale retelling – Beauty and the Beast. It’s actually being edited by a friend right now. Maybe I’ll finally publish in the next couple years. ^.^ I can hope. XD
    So excited for you!!!
